A Box of Christmas Cards

Baby Jesus came to earth
Miracle of his mother’s birth

Beside the water Mary walks
While seabirds cry for liberty.

A young boy gazes at a crystal ball
Where patterns change shape
Kaleidoscopically.

Rioting crowds throw stones
At vehicles driving on the Sabbath day.

The frocks and vestments of priests and ministers
Gain glittering rainbows in a small laundrette
Operated by fairy witches.

Twinkle star, sparkle time
Candles burn a festive rhyme
Today’s the day – it’s Nature’s day
And the old ways die
And robins fly
On Christmas day in the morning.
