Strengthened by Storms Book Launch

Last week, in collaboration with Devon Partnership Trust, Recovery Devon held a book launch for our new publication, Strengthened by Storms. The third book to be added to our Storms series!

Recovery Devon’s Managing Director, Hilda, shares “The launch event went really well, with lots of lovely speeches and the atmosphere was warm and convivial.”

‘How can our mental health struggles lead to strengths that enable us to care for others?

This is the question that has given rise to a beautifully-produced new publication: ‘Strengthened by Storms’.

It is the third in a trilogy of inspirational books articulating the experience and recovery journeys of people living and working in Devon … this time from the whole spectrum of NHS mental health practitioners, including peer tutors, psychiatrists, therapists and managers.

‘Strengthened by Storms’ is a collection of personal stories that also holds hope of being a tool for connecting us all in our shared humanity – practitioners and patients alike.

“I don’t think I could have anticipated the effect that being part of this book would have on me or how valuable I have found writing for it. It has been a real privilege to have had the time and focus to reflect back on my clinical “life’s work”, some of the why and the how I came to choose the field I chose and quite a lot of the what, which has made it meaningful and so joyous. I think being part of this work has allowed me to look back, enjoy and close this chapter of my life and prepare me for the new adventures ahead.

It is rare to get the chance to take time and think about people whose paths you have crossed, their stories and how this has shaped the clinician you became. It was such a pleasure to remember some of the incredible people I have been responsible for and supported on their journeys through some of the most challenging circumstances life can throw up.”
