What have we been up to?

September has been a really a very busy month for the organisation as our diaries have been full to the brim with events, networking opportunities and collaborative working.

The team have been working hard to organise our Recovery Day that’s happening in Exeter on Wednesday 11th October (See more info further below) and building our annual report for 2023. It has been great to reflect on our year and to see what we have achieved, particularly as this year we celebrate our 20th Anniversary! The report will be published on our website for you all to read shortly.

Letter of Hope – Two New Editions

The Letter of Hope, Letter for Tomorrow and Hope Letter have been written by adults, young people and people with learning disabilities from Devon, who wish to offer help and Hope to those thinking about suicide. Recovery Devon logo and Devon Partnership Trust Logo.

We are excited to share about the relaunch of the Letter of Hope, a resource we have created in partnership with Devon Partnership Trust and by people in Devon with personal experience of suicide.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, we launched two new versions of the letter; Letter for Tomorrow for young people written by young people, and Hope Letter, an Easy Read version for people with learning disabilities. To find out more please click here. Or get in touch with us if you would like to order physical copies.

Recovery Day 11th October 2023

There’s still time to book tickets to attend out ‘Recovery Day’ on Wednesday 11th October. We will be celebrating our 20th Anniversary as well 20 years of Recovery within Devon. It will be held at Newtown Community Centre, Belmont Park in Exeter at 10.30am-2pm.

We’ll be celebrating all of the projects that Recovery Devon have supported through our Community Development Fund since it began in 2016. Some of the fund winners will be giving a short presentation about the work that they have been doing throughout the years, others will be offering workshops.

Have you ever wanted to try cold water therapy? Our Community Development Fund winners ‘Healthscape’ will be bringing some ‘Lumi Pod’s’ to host some FREE cold water workshops. If you would like to book onto a session please book here.

We will be having recovery talks from Iola Weir, Healthscape, Stephen Ball and more! Plus, we will be joined by ‘The Washing Machine of Destiny’ which is a theatre show supported by Recovery Devon, the Arts Council of England, Crediton Arts Centre and Villages in Action. Phillip Robinson, Luca Saunders and the show’s director Pippa Marriott will talk about the show and how both the performance and the creative process of developing it have been important in recovering confidence, connection and finding a voice, not only for the performers but for the audiences too. The show has been created from the imaginations, sensabilites and energy from Philip Robinson and Luca Saunders, two people with autism.

Light refreshments will be provided to everyone who attends.

Please book FREE tickets via eventbrite here or email hello@recoverydevon.co.uk.

Happy to Share Partnership with Devon Carers

Happy to Share Card

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Devon Carers to expand the reach of Happy to Share’ in the community.

Devon Carers are now handing out our Happy to Share cards at their face-to-face carer peer support groups to encourage connection and reduce isolation.

We relaunched Happy to Share earlier this year and we were keen to find new innovative ways to help bring this iniative into Devon communities. It’s great that Devon Carers have found a way to support the project, whilst helping support unpaid carers who may be struggling with feelings of loneliness , who have become detached from their community or perhaps looking to find ways to meet new people.

If you would like to find more about the project, please visit www.happytoshare.co.uk or you can email project lead Jody Coyle at jody@recoverydevon.co.uk to find out how you can get involved or get your own Happy to Share cards.

Need help signposting?

We are really pleased to announce that we will be soon added to the ‘Devon and Cornwall Directory’ which is an extensive directory listing available mental health & other services in the Devon & Cornwall area. To download the directory, click here.

If you’re interested in getting your organisation added, please contact Tiffany Player, who has put this directory together devonandcornwalldirectory@hotmail.com. Tiffany is currently training to be a therapist and has worked in mental health services for 8 years. Well done and thank you Tiffany for the incredible work you are doing!

With a shout out to ‘Marbles Lost and Found‘ , whom are using their website to link people to the Devon and Cornwall Directory. ‘Marbles’ themselves are a comprehensive and impeccably researched website which also serves as a directory of mental health services and self-help support with lived experience at its heart. Visit www.marbleslostandfound.co.uk for more.

Join our aDoddle Community Map!

We are partners with the wonderful folk at aDoddle. They are working with you and your community to make it as easy for everyone to find help and support locally as it is to find a hotel or restaurant on Google Maps.

By Mapping UK Charities, Community Projects, Groups & Organisations together we are creating a national resource for use at a local level. It’s free to create a profile on aDoddle, and this can hold all sorts of information, making it great for small groups who can’t afford a website.

Do you have a not-for-profit community mental health offer you’d like us to share?

With thousands of social media followers and newsletter subscribers across Devon, we’d love to help you find your community. Send an email (hello@recoverydevon.co.uk) with “Roundup” in the subject line, adding a photo and a few details about your project – we’ll include it in our next round-up.
