Recovery Devon Elevenses

Our monthly informal meetings on different subjects are going strong. Themes for the next three are:

  • Schizophrenia Awareness (Fri 29th July)

See you at Respect Festival?

All different, all equal! Exeter Respect is the city’s annual celebration of diversity where we use the performing and creative arts to engage the wider community in saying no to racism and all forms of prejudice.

We’ll be holding a stall on Saturday 11th June to help celebrate its 25th birthday, so come and say hello!

Bloom Festival “Phoenix Wings”

Thank you to everyone who came along to our workshop with Hayley Watson at the Bloom Festival. The Phoenix Wings created during this workshop show a collaborative sharing of overcoming and strength, of a group of people able to rise from darkness to share the light.

Recovery Opportunities -Devon

Devon Recovery Learning Community

As usual the DRLC offer free courses right across Devon. You can see them all on their website or download a copy of their prospectus. Will you try cold water swimming, ukelele, patchwork, fossil hunting or archeology this summer..?

Plymouth Recovery Empowerment Group – Workshops

Plymouth REG’s first workshops went really well and there are more on the way. Understanding Mental Health Medication runs from Monday 13th June for 3 weeks at 3pm.

Understanding & Coping with Extreme Moods is a two-workshop offer by clinical psychologist Elina Baker and expert by experience Nicky Nurrish running in Plympton from 28th June.

Fit 4 Work Program with The Devon Clinic and I Can Do That

Still Available! These two CICS have joined forces in Torbay to offer individuals a combination of 9 talking therapy sessions and 12 work mentoring sessions to people aged 18 to 65 wishing to get back into the workplace.

They understand it can be hard – that’s why they are offering this support completely free!

Devon Mind Courses

Did you know? Devon Mind run various courses and meetings throughout the year, such as Food and Mood, Behavioural Activation, and creative Trash to Treasure workshops.

Free Summer Wander and Craft Day at Cockington, Friday 24th June

Jointly offered by Plymouth Octopus Project and Torbay Community Development Trust is this lovely day out at Cockington Court.

The day begins with a sensory walk and ends with a nature crafting session indoors with refreshements provided.

The places are offered to residents from Torbay and Plymouth postcodes who are not currently working.

Wellbeing Works Devon

Still available! Wellbeing Works is an exciting opportunity from Devon Communities Together.It’s for Devon based businesses, employees, and individuals to develop wellbeing and resilience during the pandemic recovery period.

You can book a free 30 minute one to one check in using their online booking system or calling 01392 248919.

They also run a number of wellbeing workshops online.

HOPE courses for anxiety, depression, and chronic pain

The HOPE programme focuses on you as a person, not as a long-term condition. It helps you to discover new strengths and rediscover old ones to keep yourself well.

Devon Partnership NHS Trust have online courses coming up this June and July for specific challenges such as anxiety, depression, and living with chronic pain.

North Devon Biosphere Groups: Barnstaple, South Molton & Bideford

North Devon Biosphere are running courses for adults to engage in outdoor, environmental activity.  Throughout the sessions there will be opportunities to meet local organisations that could offer ideas and support for people to pursue environmental activities, either through volunteering, training or employment.

It is a really exciting opportunity for people to experience nature on their doorstep!

STOP PRESS – MIND Paid Peer Support Forum – Closing Date 30th May

From MIND website: “We are looking for four people to be part of a working group that will inform and shape our monthly Peer Support & Community Group Online Forum. The four
people will have different life experiences, expertise, and viewpoints on community-led groups doing peer support. This includes all types of groups that come together to support each other including peer support and self-help
groups, mutual aid groups, youth groups and faith-based groups.

The Devon Mental Health Alliance has been launched!

The (DMHA) is a partnership between six organisations dedicated to providing support for people experiencing challenges with their mental health. Their goal is to improve access to services and identify new opportunities to support people across all of Devon’s communities, using a collaborative approach that reaches across and brings together partners from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors.

A number of vacancies are available across the county.

Apply for funding from the Veterans’ Foundation

Grants of up to £40,000 are available to support charities and not-for-profit organisations that provide lifetime support to those in need among serving armed forces personnel, veterans, and their immediate families.

Let’s Talk Teenagers

Let’s Talk Teenagers is an opportunity for you as a parent or guardian of teenager(s). Meet over 3 evenings online to hear about the challenges young people are facing today, and the tools you can use to support your children and community.

Free Digital Workshops for Devon Voluntary Groups with Cosmic

A series of workshops are being offered by Velocity Devon free for VCSE groups. Delivered by Cosmic, and funded by the Government’s Renewal Fund, subjects include Facebook, Instagram, WordPress, and general marketing and SEO advice.

Reflections on the State of Mental Health Services in the UK – Healthwatch & Kooth Report

A Healthwatch mental health survey and subsequent webinar hosted by Kooth in March 2022 revealed that the challenges with access to mental health support are something that local groups and service users around them are all too aware of. Kooth have created a report of the findings from the survey and the webinar.
