Pride – You are you!

Jody had a great time at Barnstaple Pride last week flying the flag for Recovery Devon.

Pride is important to us here at RD – Sami worked to review our diversity policy recently, and we commissioned a fantastic series of videos from our friends at It’s All About You Wellbeing during lockdown.

We’ll be dedicating an autumn elevenses to LGBTQIA+ mental health, and Em will be attending Teignmouth Pride in September.

Anxiety Experts Conquer Teignbridge!

We have just started the last anxiety peer group funded to run in Teignbridge. Both of the charities we have worked with are looking for funding to be able to offer more in future. Peer groups are badly needed and we are working to help communities deliver more. You can read more about how the groups work on our blog.

Devon Recovery Learning Community

As usual the DRLC offer free courses right across Devon. You can see them all on their website or download a copy of their prospectus. Will you try cold water swimming, ukelele, patchwork, fossil hunting or archeology this summer..?

HOPE programme goes live online!

Great news! You can find your nearest HOPE course in Devon in their new online portal.

The HOPE (Help Overcoming Problems Effectively) Programme supports individuals to consider “what is important to me?” and to build their confidence and resilience

OUTSIDE: Swimming for Health in Saunton

The fancily-named “OUTdoor Swimming as a nature-based social prescribing Intervention for DEpression: a research study” is about to start in Saunton, and they are seeking participants.

This course is aimed at people living with mild to moderate symptoms of depression who would like to try outdoor swimming, but aren’t sure where to start.

Disability Aware & British Sign Language Mental Health Support

Living Options Devon offer a variety of mental health services for people living with a disability, including their Time 2 Talk listening service, accessible counselling, and counselling for Deaf and/or British Sign Language.

MakeSpace Torbay Self-Harm Research

Our friends at MakeSpace would like to hear from people in Torbay who would be willing to be interviewed about experiences of self-harm.

“We are looking to work with service-users, carers, clinicians, and third sector groups in
Torbay through a series of focus groups and 1:1 interviews. All people involved in the project will be paid £20.00p/h for their time plus costs. We will also provide space for participants to have a 1:1 debrief with a therapist, free of charge.”

Wellbeing Works Devon

Still available! Wellbeing Works is an exciting opportunity from Devon Communities Together.It’s for Devon based businesses, employees, and individuals to develop wellbeing and resilience during the pandemic recovery period.

They also run a number of wellbeing workshops online.

Torbay Stone Balancing, Sand Art, Community Helpline, Sunflower Trails and more!

Torbay Community Development Trust have a whole host of events including mindful stone balancing and sand art sessions on beaches in Torbay, and sunflower trails for Ukraine. They also operate a community helpline on 01803 446022.

Park Walks at Wonford, Exeter

Recently restarted are these free and friendly park walks from Wonford Sports Centre each Sunday at 2pm.

Just turn up to stay fit and socialise!

It’s A New Day Recruitment Fair – Barnstaple

Our Jody will be attending this event on 13th July at Barnstaple Pannier Market, 10am until 3pm. There’ll be recruitment stalls, advice, training information, and free refreshments!

New Barnstaple groups

Barnstaple Alliance are running two new groups at Shambles near Barnstaple Market.

The Wellbeing Cafe runs each Wednesday from 10am to 12noon, and Men’s Chill and Chat runs on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm.

STOP PRESS – South West Academic Science Health Network Funding closes 20th July

This Health Equity Innovation Challenge invites applications for projects to support children and young people’s anxiety management. Grants are up to £25,000 for projects completed by end of March 2023.

The Devon Mental Health Alliance continues apace!

The partnership of 6 charities continues to grow and there are regular vacancies are available across the county.

Positive Action Officer Vacancy

Devon and Cornwall Police seek a Positive Action Officer to encourage more diverse representation in police recruitment. This group were our neighbours at the Respect Festival and we love their ethos!

Free Digital Workshops for Devon Voluntary Groups with Cosmic

A series of workshops are still being offered by Velocity Devon free for VCSE groups. Delivered by Cosmic, and funded by the Government’s Renewal Fund, subjects include Facebook, Instagram, WordPress, and general marketing and SEO advice.

National Survivor User Network Bulletin

This fantastic bulletin gathers together national research, surveys, and user-led projects and is well worth signing up to.

Gambling Harm Training

Gamcare currently runs FREE 90 minute training, awareness sessions, resources and ongoing support to recognise and respond to signs of Gaming and Gambling Related Harm – a silent, dangerous epidemic in the UK.

Vacancy – Programme Manager, Devon Community Foundation

Devon Community Foundation funds projects across the county and needs someone with a good understanding of social issues and community needs coupled with sound administrative and management skills to join their team.

Infant Mental Health Awareness Resources

Infant Mental Health Awareness Week focussed this June on understanding trauma in early life and its effects on people as they grow. This year, the Parent Infant Foundation produced a series of resources to support greater awareness and action.

And finally… Walkies!

“Give” is one of the five ways to wellbeing. If you are a dog lover but are unable to keep a dog at home yourself, had you thought of giving your time by volunteering for the Cinnamon Trust?

This wonderful charity finds people who can look after or walk a dog whilst their owner is ill or in hospital.
