World Mental Health Day 2021, 10th October

It sure is that time of year again – but what have we learnt about mental health in the last 12 months?

Over the course of the last year, many of us have recognised changes in our own mental well-being and have realised how important it is to prioritise looking after our mental health. It’s important to acknowledge the challenges we have faced since the pandemic began last year and there is definitely something to be said about how mental health is now higher up the agenda – more than ever!

For those of you who are not familiar with #WMHD, The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10th October every year. With each year comes a new theme for the Global Awareness Campaign. This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World’.

2020 will always be remembered as the year of COVID-19 and there is no denying that it has been a mental health pandemic, as much as it has been a physical health pandemic. The effects of isolation and loneliness, health anxiety and grief, financial difficulties and change in working status has had huge effects on the mental health of people across the world. 2020 also highlighted inequalities due to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and people who experience physical illness and the devastating impact it can have on mental health.

Recovery Devon stand together with the rest of the world in support of 2021 World Mental Health Day, by sharing information on our social media that highlights how inequality can be addressed to ensure people are able to take care of their own and other’s mental health. You can follow the global campaign through the hashtag #WorldMentalHealthDay and find out the different ways you too can get involved.

Are you interested in mental health recovery – whether for yourself, your work or for your community? We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about how you can join us our annual Celebration Day on 18th October at Organic Arts Farm, Exeter.

We’ll be celebrating all of the projects that Recovery Devon has supported this year through our Recovery Development Fund. We shall also be presenting our Annual Report and AGM and giving all attending the chance to shape our work for the future. To join us, please register for free here or email social@recoverydevon.co.uk. (Farm-cooked lunch and refreshments included!)
