Theatre Of The Mind (funded project)

Theatre of the Mind is a socially engaged theatre, mental health education program that is working collaboratively across psychiatry and socially engaged drama. This project is designed to support early intervention and awareness by increasing knowledge and understanding of mental health issues in young people.

Theatre of the Mind is supported by: Doorstep Arts CIC of Torbay

We aim to:

  • reduce the stigma associated with mental health.
  • improve awareness of self-resilience and coping strategies.
  • help young people negotiate stressful situations and transitions and promote good mental health.
  • increase understanding of positive communication, assertiveness, self esteem.
  • increase awareness of signs and symptoms associated with poor mental health.
  • helps people understand potential stresses that can impact on our well being and ways to manage these.

We hope to deliver this workshop to as many young people as feasible and funding allows. It will be delivered at schools and youth groups.
We would like to focus this work at year 6’s and 7’s as this is a time of transition from primary to secondary school.

They will also be offered the opportunity to join a regular Saturday morning drama session in Brixham at Juicy Theatre to continue their drama explorations.
This funding will enable the course to be delivered as a 2 hour workshop initially working with up to 30 young people per workshop.

The project will deliver and develop opportunities in the following areas:

This is a series of workshops that will support young people in exploring mental health through the medium of drama/theatre, culminating in a creative presentation to share with other students/teachers within their school.
