Pete’s Dragons (funded project)

Petes Dragons is an Exmouth‐based suicide bereavement support charity.

Every person bereaved by suicide will have different needs. The first and very important step in the “ideal” model is to ensure that every person bereaved in this way receives information which will help them deal with both the practical and emotional issues they face. Pete’s Dragons would like to create a bespoke pack to suit the needs of each family referred.
An appropriate combination of leaflets, information and guidance will ensure knowledge of and access to our listening service if the family choose that it is right for them. We offer an understanding of the formal procedures surrounding the death of their loved one, assistance with helping any young people to process their emotions and examples of how other people in their situation have felt/coped/moved forward.

As well as providing choice and hope, the packs will help combat the isolation and stigma often felt after a loss of this nature. There are on average 84 deaths by suicide in Devon per annum. £750 would provide a budget which could ensure that the suicide bereaved in Devon all receive essential information and resources in a timely manner.
