Black Dog Arts Workshop (funded project)

To provide a safe and creative venue for a group of ten people recovering from mental ill health, living in radius of Black Dog to spend time together in a one day taster workshop exploring their inner creativity through simple art and craft activities.

To be led by up to five unpaid Volunteers with expertise and training in their fields and a proven commitment to facilitating people in recovery through the benefits of art and creativity to provide a stress-free and inspirational setting.

To provide at least three opportunities through drawing, painting and guided meditation, such as:-

  • Mandalas
  • Mapping My Life Journey
  • Self portraits
  • Weaving willow dream catchers and decorative forms filled with personal meaning
  • Modelling with clay to create animal, human and fantastic forms:

To provide a warm and friendly setting to discover something new from a range of inspirational yet achievable forms of creative expression.

To discover or rediscover an inner creative expression which can be tapped into and recreated to help sustain personal positive progress in recovery.

To reach out to people in recovery from mental illness who are doubly hampered by little or no opportunities to share experiences like this because of poor transport in large isolated rural area in the heart of mid Devon:

To overcome barriers and prejudice to mental illness.

To have an enjoyable day and see if people would value more regular workshops on a monthly basis and perhaps in other villages like Morchard Bishop, Thelbridge and Puddington.
